Jon B. Gandelot has been an attorney engaged in the private practice of law in the Detroit area since receiving his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University in 1969. He concentrates in the areas of estate planning, trusts, charitable planning and estate administration. He is a member of the Wealth Counsel, a national network of estate planning attorneys, as well as the founder and past chairman of the Michigan Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys. Jon is a frequent lecturer in the areas of estate and charitable planning and asset protection law. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning section of the Michigan Bar. He has completed the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) Probate & Estate Planning Certificate Program. He holds the highest ranking (AV) for legal ability and professional standards by Martindale-Hubbell. Jon is also a member of the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Detroit.
Jon’s community involvement includes over 12 years as a member of the Grosse Pointe Board of Education, on which he served as President five times. He has also served as President of The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit, and on the boards of Grosse Pointe Rotary, Rivertown Business Association, Detroit Historical Society, Chi Psi Fraternity Educational Trust, and The University Club. He is also active in Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and is a past trustee of the Church. Jon received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Michigan in 1966 and is an unabashed University of Michigan fanatic. His charitable efforts on behalf of his undergraduate and law school alma maters have raised in excess of $30,000,000 in contributions to the two schools.
He is married to Lisa Mower Gandelot, has two adult children and lives in Grosse Pointe Farms. Among his outside interests are fly-fishing, bicycling, woodworking, construction and historic preservation. He has been a guest lecturer at The University of Michigan and at The University of Michigan. Flint and has taught estate planning to scores of insurance professionals, accountant and financial planners.
