Jeffrey R. Matsen

Matsen graduated from Brigham Young University cum laude in 1964 and received his law degree with honors (Order of the Coif) from the UCLA School of Law in 1967. Upon graduation from law school, Matsen was employed as an associate attorney by the prestigious Los Angeles law firm of Musick, Peeler & Garrett. After serving a three-year tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps as a Judge Advocate with the rank of Captain, Matsen joined the Newport Beach law firm of Westover, Currey & Matsen in 1971. He is now the partner in charge of the Estate Planning and Business Transaction Department of Bohm, Matsen, Kegel & Aguilera, LLP. This Department encompasses estate planning, asset protection, business formations and transactional matters, tax and real estate.

Matsen has been named one of "America's Top 100 Attorneys" by the prestigious Worth Magazine and one of California's "Super Lawyers" by Los Angeles Magazine. Matsen also has the “AV” highest rating for competency and ethics as published by the prestigious international attorney directory, Martindale Hubbell.

A sought after educator, Matsen regularly presents educational seminars for the California State Bar, Continuing Education of the Bar Program, and has presented seminars for the California Society of Public Accountants, the Orange County Bar Association and the National Association of Realtors. He was a Professor of Law in Business Planning and Estate Planning at Western State University College of Law from 1968-1985, an Adjunct Professor of Law at Chapman University School of Law in 1998 and an Instructor at the Golden Gate University Program of Advanced Taxation from 1977-1983. As a fellow of the Center of International Legal Studies, Matsen has served as a visiting professor at the law school in Maribor, Slovenia.  Matsen is certified in Business Appraisal by the National Society of Appraiser Specialists, is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and a member of the Offshore Institute. He is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association (Member, Section of Real Property, Probate and Trusts Law).

Matsen is married to Susan Matsen and resides in Newport Beach with his family where he managed Little League and Pony League baseball, coached basketball and served on the Board of Directors of the local Boys and Girls Club. He currently serves on the Board  of Counselors of the Orange County Pacific Symphony Orchestra and was named Orange County 2007 Father of the Year by the Father’s Day Council and the American Diabetes Association.
